Katharine Schlater's 1929 woodcut *In the Lobby* offers an intimate glimpse of a public gathering space, carved and printed with the bold contrasts typical of this traditional medium. The image was created from a wooden block measuring 181 by 139 millimeters and printed on a slightly larger sheet, resulting in a compact work that draws the eye into its depicted moment of everyday activity.
