Art Historical Context

This delicate miniature, titled *Initial H with the Annunciation to the Shepherds*, was created by the Dutch artist Hermanus N (1754–1825). Measuring just 64 by 55 millimeters on paper, the work transforms the letter “H” into a finely detailed biblical scene.
