This stereoscopic albumen print by Thomas Houseworth captures a bustling view of San Francisco’s California Street in 1867, looking west from Sansom Street. Part the photographer’s “San Francisco” series, the image offers a window into the city’s rapid growth just two decades after the Gold Rush.
