Pas de Trois, modeled around 1763 by Joseph Nees at the Ludwigsburg Porcelain Manufactory, depicts three dancers in a graceful ballet pose, their forms entwined with delicate garlands. Standing just 6¼ inches tall, the group is fashioned from hard-paste porcelain, the durable, translucent material first perfected in Europe at Meissen and soon adopted by other German factories. Its crisp modeling and luminous glaze highlight the Rococo taste for lightness and playful elegance.
