About this artwork

Ravenna, located in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy, was the site of a battle fought on Easter Sunday, April 11, 1512, between the Spanish-Papal armies and the French, whose King Louis XII was pursuing dynastic claims to portions of Italy. The battle was an overwhelming victory for the French. This engraving depicts the opposing armies prior to engaging in direct combat.
