Hans Memling, a leading figure in Northern Renaissance painting, created this devotional panel in the early 1480s while working in Bruges. The work portrays the Virgin Mary and Christ Child in the company of Saints Catherine of Alexandria and Barbara, a popular arrangement known as a sacra conversazione.
