About this artwork

In this painting, leafy green trees surround a lake in the foreground, with towering mountains looming through the haze. There is no official record of a pond named "Kayser's" in Maine, so this image may depict one of three bodies of water in western Maine named "Kezar." John Bunyan Bristol's scenes of uninhabited landscapes probably appealed to urban art collectors who, like the artist, yearned to get away from city life.
