Art Historical Context

This "Title Page" print by French artist Nicolas Pineau dates to the mid-18th century and reflects the refined decorative arts of its time. Pineau (1684–1754) was a leading architect, sculptor, and ornamental designer during the height of the Rococo movement in France. Rococo emphasized graceful curves, asymmetry, and playful natural motifs, moving away from heavier Baroque forms toward lighter, more intimate interiors and furnishings.
