Art Historical Context

Ugo da Carpi’s *Wonderbare visvangst* (Miraculous Catch of Fish), dated 1609, is a fine example of a chiaroscuro woodcut measuring 241 by 349 millimetres. The scene depicts the biblical story in which Christ instructs his disciples to cast their nets once more, resulting in an abundant catch.
